Paediatric Physiotherapist (BSc Hons, MCSP)

Hi I’m Rachel a Paediatric (Children’s) Chartered Physiotherapist based in Norfolk and the owner of Play Move Grow.  My Physiotherapy career started back in 2001 and very quickly I knew I wanted to work with children due to the playful and creative nature of intervention.

Soon after qualifying I was lucky enough to specialise in Paediatrics and worked for almost 10 years in the NHS supporting children of all ages and their families.  My NHS career concluded working in early years and neonatal care.

This allowed me to understand the impact of early experiences on development and the incredible ability of the body for change (neuroplasticity) with early and timely intervention.  It is this that drove me to start my private practice which not only focuses on sensory and motor development but also the impact of early relationships on child development.

Over the past 16 years my career and personal experiences have led me to specialise in the early years and infant/newborn development.  Before leaving the NHS in 2015 I worked solely with the neonatal team at The Royal London Hospital as their developmental therapist.

Here I worked with the families of babies born too sick or too small to go home; monitoring and supporting their development until 2 years of age.  It was here and following the birth of my twins in 2013 that my knowledge for newborn development exploded along with a deep understanding of the importance of infant and maternal mental health.  These factors combined in me becoming an infant massage instructor, which I continue to teach today.

Since this time I have continued to develop my expertise in this area studying with The Brazelton Centre, completing training on the Bayleys Scale of Infant Development and expanding my knowledge of the developing sensory system with Sensory Beginnings Master Course.

Prior to studying Physiotherapy, I completed a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science at the University of Birmingham.  After being a young athlete, this seemed like the natural first step to my current career path.

As a hypermobile gymnast who at times trained up to 20 hours per week, I understood the importance of strength and conditioning to prevent injury and continue to practice dynamic yoga to protect my joints 20 years on.  Now with a child with hypermobility, this continues to be another area of focus for my practice.  I have recently undertaken training with the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute (APPI) and love seeing the difference education and functional strengthening has in this group of children.
